When KRAFTON announced that its ambitious life simulation game, inZOI, would be released by late 2024, it raised eyebrows among skeptics. To convince the gaming world of their timelines, developers not only showcased gameplay but also shared details about new features. One significant upgrade is that Zoies, the game’s characters, can now drive cars. This feature was highly requested by fans on Discord. Although free-roaming like in Grand Theft Auto is not possible, developers have integrated driving into the genre in a way that interacts seamlessly with other game systems.

Social Dynamics and Customization

Zoies can leave their homes together, split up to attend to various activities such as karaoke with friends or playing chess. Players can adjust the level of interaction among Zoies using sliders, determining how quickly relationships can develop or become complex. For instance, a low relationship level might lead to a Zoie slapping another in public. Furthermore, the game includes a reputation system. Positive actions will improve a Zoie’s reputation, while negative behaviors like stealing or fighting will decrease it, affecting the options available in character interactions.

Hidden Depths and Modding Capabilities

Currently, the developers are working on a system tentatively named “karma.” This system will reflect the consequences of a Zoie’s actions when they believe no one is watching. Karma might even affect the character’s descendants, although this feature is still under discussion. The city editor allows changes to be made to levels of crime, pollution, fire risk, and overall population health. The developers welcome mod creation, planning to release several guides for content creators and a special UE5 plugin to simplify the modding process.

Dream Mechanics and Real-world Consequences

Zoies will experience dreams that can affect their lives in the game. For instance, a prophetic dream could ensure a lottery win, or a character might transfer their “luck” to a friend. Different types of dreams, including nightmares, will have unique effects, which a fortune teller in the game can help interpret for a fee. Some Zoies will suffer from sleepwalking, potentially leading to significant consequences like inadvertently donating all their savings to charity.

Enhanced Realism and Interactivity

In the game’s city, there will be a building where players can film their Zoies in various settings, from an airplane cabin to a kitchen. Developers are also enhancing the game’s photo mode, allowing for increased detail at the cost of optimization. Additionally, hairstyles and nails feature deep customization options, including multiple colors and designs for manicures. This attention to detail in customization allows players to truly personalize their Zoies and their interactions within the game world.
